Auto repair thrives in a down economy. Sadly, so does the dollar menu at fast food joints. But, did you know vitamin sales are up, too?
I asked Brenda Darling, a pharmacist at Children's Medical Center, for her thoughts on vitamins, especially for kids. Is now the time to invest in a Flintstones kid?
She says to always consult your child's healthcare provider, but that for most kids, a good multivitamin is a wise investment in any economy, especially if your child prefers pudding cups to leafy greens.
Brenda recommends you read the labels before choosing a brand. Look for a multivitamin that includes enough vitamin D - 400 units a day - and try to find one that has omega 3, a healthy fat.
And while many of today's vitamins are more palatable than the chalky chewables we used to take, Brenda says it's important to teach kids that vitamins are not candies. There really is such thing as too much of a good thing.
So, speaking of those old vitamins...remember the Flintstones commercials from yesteryear? Sorry! I know that catchy little "10 million strong, and growing" jingle will be in your head all day now!
Do your little ones take vitamins?
