The really tragic part is nearly half of those kids qualify for CHIP or Medicaid, but they aren't enrolled. And why not? Because the system makes it really tough to get and stay enrolled. The paperwork, which as you can imagine is chock full of "easy reading," can take weeks or even months to complete. And right now, you have to re-enroll every six months.
Imagine the frustration of a working parent who plays by the rules, gets her kids enrolled and then, just days later, starts getting notices that it’s time to renew the coverage again!
This weekend, the Texas House of Representatives will consider simplifying this process and extending the coverage period for Children's Medicaid from six to 12 months.
Tell your representative that you support extending the enrollment period. Enter your zip code in the Action Alert section and make your voice heard. It just may help hundreds of thousands of little Texans get the healthcare they need and deserve.
