Arguing with an Audience

A new study in the Journal of Child Psychiatry and Psychology suggests bickering in front of the kids may not be all bad.

Dr. Pete Stavinoha, a UT Southwestern child psychologist at Children's Medical Center reminds us that, as parents, we're our children's first and most important role models.

"Take advantage of opportunities to help children learn to navigate life's challenges, and that includes when resolving conflicts between parents."

He says we shouldn't go out of our way to argue in front of the kiddos, but as long as the arguing is fair (no name calling, "Mr. Know-it-all"), it can be a good opportunity to teach kids that even people who are very close sometimes disagree.

Just remember, the way you fight the war of words is how Junior will fight back, too.

So, will this study change your house rules for heated debates?
