Is Your Kid One of 30 Million?

I know your kid is one in a million, but is he one of 30 million?

Every year, more than 30 million kids participate in organized sports. Sports are good for kids. They teach teamwork and discipline, and they boost confidence. And for a generation that's seriously affected by childhood obesity, sports are a good way for kids to get enough exercise.

A new report says for kids ages five - 17, one in five visits to the ER is for sports-related injuries. Fortunately, most of those visits are for non-life threatening emergencies like sprains and fractures.

And we all know a bump or a bruise isn't going to scare off a Texan - no matter how young - from playing sports.

Which is why it's a good thing Children's has a new sports medicine center specifically for young and growing athletes. A group of specially-trained pediatric physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and dietitians have teamed up to provide preventative care, treatment and rehabilitation for today's burgeoning sports stars and tomorrow's hot shot athletes.

We hope your little slugger never needs us, but isn't good to know we're in your backyard if he does?
